They are not just cats

These days, besides the stray cat crisis, we're facing more and more problems with house cats too. Humanity really feels at its worst again.

As most of you know, if you don't own your home and you rent, being suddenly forced to move — whether your contract ends or you're asked to leave — is not just hard on you. It can mean having to give up your beloved pets, because most rental places do not accept them.

We recently had a lovely woman who wanted to adopt one of our young blind cats, but she hesitated because she doesn't know if her new landlord will allow cats.

And then there are the calls — people telling us they have seven cats but have to move, and the new landlord only allows two. Imagine the agony of being forced to choose.

We know — they are not children, they are “just cats.” But imagine a pampered indoor cat suddenly placed in a shelter like ours, often confined to a cage because otherwise it will desperately try to get back home and may be run over.

Imagine our sensitive, loving volunteers watching that pet in distress — refusing food, staring into a corner, slowly shutting down. This is what abandoned pets do. Yes, they are fed, they have clean litter boxes — but their hearts are literally broken. We have seen cats die from that heartbreak.

So please — please — help make this madness stop.

Make it illegal to refuse a whole family just because it includes pets.
