Her story
The gentle soul who is so easily overlooked.
We think Loukia may be our oldest cat, at around seven years old. She is such a gentle presence, but because of her fragile health she now lives in a safe area we call the Chicken Coop, where many of our patients live or recuperate.
Loukia is sterilised and vaccinated — a calm little girl whom everyone loves. She minds her own business, gets along well with other cats, and quietly enjoys her corner of the shelter. She loves her bed and waits patiently for Sofia every morning and evening for her cuddles.
I often think Loukia is one of those precious souls who will always be overlooked by adopters. She had a scare with FIP and started treatment, but we ran out of her medication — and somehow, she pulled through. She has had several vet visits and stays at the clinic, but she is incredibly resilient. She always gets better, with the same quiet patience she shows in everything.
In a loving home, with good-quality special food and the care she needs, Loukia could thrive and hopefully live for many more years. Life in a shelter with so many other sick cats, extreme summer heat and food that isn’t always ideal will inevitably take a toll on her fragile body.
She may not be the cat who immediately catches your eye. She isn’t demanding and doesn’t know how to ask for attention — but she has so much love to give to the person who notices her. And if you cannot adopt her, please consider sponsoring her: even a small monthly contribution helps us provide her special diet, vitamins and regular check-ups.
